Ask any blogger and they’ll tell you, comment spam sucks. Forget the formal spam, bots posting backlinks with keywords and whatnot to an otherwise pointless site. How about users who make rude statements, obnoxious rants and flames or anything other? Comment spam sucks as much for the blogger as it does for the reader, thus a suggestion.

If you’re going to allow commenting, then you must moderate it. Not censorship, although sometimes it would be nice to axe an annoying rebuttal, I mean clean up the crap. Interestingly, a Youtube savant has created a comment clean-up tool, too bad this is site specific, I have a friend who could use it.

If you’re on wordpress, you can install the Akismet tool, which auto-filters obvious backlink spam. Otherwise, keep your eye on the comments, or don’t keep them at all.
