Ebay iPhone App, Web Meets World, Almost!
Categories: Business, Technology

I love Ebay, I own a million cheap things from China I don’t need, and I believe competitive bidding is now a qualified Nerd Sport. Despite this passion for the heat of the moment “bid”, I love my iPhone even more. So you can only imagine how elated I was to find that Ebay had helped me with my bad habit, building a convenient iPhone app.

Honestly, it doesn’t do it for me. It’s just not the same, nothing like sitting on a computer for hours eating junk food while my monitor secretly promotes a migraine headache. I mean, did I really want to know what was going on in the world of Ebay, mid checkout at Targét? No, not really.

This was all true, and then it happened. I was leaving the theater with my wife, when we began to argue who was better at Batman? Clearly Michael Keaton was way better then Val Kilmer. George Clooney was a mistake, and Christian Bael is the perfect American Psycho in spandex! Well, the argument took a turn for cheap shots, and ended with something like “… if you could, you’d sell your debates on Ebay!”… Oh My God, do I love my Wife; she is like a light bulb in my otherwise “buy now” button life.

At the moment she said that, I felt inspired to share, “Well, why don’t I just Ebay you, headline “Take My Wife Please!”. I immediately went for my iPhone, right to the Ebay app. I was saddened, because at that exact moment I wanted nothing more than the ability to take a snapshot of my wife, write a description (Beautiful badger, good cook, does not clean…) and press post. Think of it, a world where you could use your iPhone as a tool of commerce, where I could have hawked my amazing wife on a whim.

Seems kind of obvious to me, Ebay must enable this for the iPhone application. While I don’t really want to sell my Wife, I do think it would be a perfect platform tool for Ebay. It would drive users to want an iPhone, to harness the “Sell Anywhere” functionality. Nothing complicated, just a simple application to enable the web to world connection.<–>

I love this app…the only problem is that I can’t tell how many items people bid on at one time. There are some limitations, but it’s a good start.
